I left my heart in Palawan. A geek also has to travel

I was so busy in my robotic life for a while, going to work, going to school, going to malls, concerts, basically a Manila geek way of enjoying life(not that I'm complaining) but I have been itching to travel. My last travel was way back 2010 in Korea and Japan.

Then finally I have a chance to go to Palawan, I should have been there last time with my lifelong friends but during that time I was teasing them it will rain and there's a typhoon so I never went with them. BUT it never rained. hahaha!

Fast forward to current time: ***splooosh***..........................

Then we finally arrive in Palawan. Now what to do? What else! Go to Puerto Princesa Underground River. It now belong to the New 7 Wonders of Nature. I'm so proud of you "aking inang Pilipinas" for wining this!

The original plan is 1 day in Puerto, go to El Nido then back to Puerto in 3 days. But we where surprised it's hard to get the permit to enter the Underground River since there are lots of tourist since it has been included in the New 7 Wonders of the worlds. If you have a limited time I suggest you to get the permit prior going there by using an agency. the rrice is actually the same.

So prior going to the underground we did ALOT of things!

1)Honday Bay island hoping.

Snake Island- just like a real snake the shore goes likethis ~~~~~~
Pandan Island - due to "pandan" like trees
Pambato Reef- OMG those reefs are so beautiful! and the fishes!!! Pambato talaga!

You can still go to other islands. One thing we missed is the Starfish Island :( Now I want to go back there.

2)Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm- This is where you can meet prisoners who are turned out to be farmers or carvers.

3)Rancho Santa Monica- Jump shots!

4)Bakers Hill-Pizza time! (that we never had)

5)Butterfly Garden- cute and informative garden

6)Weavers- Pasalubong with a cause.

7)Noki Nocs- The best halo halo we ever had in our life.

8)Kinabuch- We had crocodile meat and tamiloc, not the usual vian in Manila :p

9)UNDERGROUND RIVER- speechless

10)MISSED the flight- Yahooooooo why am I happy? Well....
11)Smokeys hotdog - free meal c/o Mark haha due to me missing a flight "pampalubag loob"
12)Tiki Resort-night life in Palawan
13)Firefly farm-BEST EVER boat ride, I can see the moon, the start and even Jupiter. one of the BEST experience of my life
14)beer hopping. Karaoke hopping.

We started as 4 adventurers, minus one on 3rd day, then I will leave on the 4th day. But due to destiny, I missed my flight, Finally we can really go to the planned EL NIDO and CORON!!! Since the air fare for me to rebook is high my friend and I decided to go to El Nido then Coron ^____^.

The total travel time from El Nido to Coron is 9 long hours which is long and tiring but I can say the it's one fun part of the travel. Heres a tip you can just go outside the boat so you won't get dizzy. You will appreciate the travel more believe me ^_^ lots of great scenery.

We only stayed for about half a day in El Nido nevertheless we enjoyed the serenity of the place. Sleeping in front of the beach is priceless!

1)Simple house over viewing El Nido shore for the price of 300 peso.

2)Mt Tapyas 700 steps-It's tiring but once you reach the top! You are going to say WOW

***2 days in CORON Paradise - BEST DAY OF MY LIFE ^____^***
1)Island hoping - BEST ever island hoping I've ever had

2)Restaurant hoping- lots of good restaurants and cafe in a small island

4)Walking at night in the seashore - BEST experience of my life, everything seems so right the music, the food, I can see the start, the sound of the ocean.
6)Reggae Pub-just before going home. Talking about life. Preparing to be back to the "unreal life" in Manila

I enjoyed our stay in Batangas beach before together with my ITD family. This Palawan trip just makes me really appreciate Philippines more! Philippines is a beautiful country with lots of wonders to offer. WHAT's NEXT! I'm so excited!!!!!! ^____^

Once in a while a geek needs to leave his Nintendo Wii, his laptop, the programming headache. We only leave ONCE in our life. LOVE, LIVE, LIFE. Thanks Palawan for making my 2011 a great year.

The answer depends on where are you going to use it.

Fat32 =still the best file system as of (2010) for your USB
= although exfat have more feature, fat32 can be read by all windows os and linux
=If you are going to use it for Ready boost of Windows Vista or Windows 7
=Ubuntu can read/write fat32 also
=MacOS can read/write fat32 also

exFat= offer more security, available in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008
= also available for XP and Windows 2003 but you need to have an update
= non Vista/2008 might not read the USB if they don;t have the driver

NTFS=if your USB is >=30GB!

What many people failed to realized is that newer PCs, with quick hard drives like the Western Digital Raptor (for example) don't necessarily see the same impact from ReadyBoost as first thought. But accordign to some test the advantage can only be experience when your PC have 512 MB RAM only. 1GB and above doesn't make a big difference. [source]

Microsoft does have further guidelines on how to use ReadyBoost optimally. It recommends a minimum of a 1:1 ratio of flash to system memory, and that can go as high as 2.5:1.

That means if your system has 1GB of system memory, the smallest size ReadyBoost USB drive you should use would be a 1GB USB drive. The largest would be a USB drive 2.5GB in size, but going beyond the 2.5:1 ratio will not degrade performance.

Outside these limits the system will simply not take advantage of the extra flash memory.

But in Windows 7 things might change a bit.

You want to try a new OS but you have no free drive. Or you have two partitions one in Windows 7 and one in Windows Server 2008. But you want more free space in Server. Now what to do? You need to partition your hard disk.

Yes you can partition hard disk in Windows 2008 but the files on it will be deleted. Please visit an article from Microsoft.

It still better to use 3rd party software because most of them offer repartition without deleting data.

1) EASEUS Partition Manager

I used it with Windows 7 and it worked great. Don't expect it to be so fast you are resizing GB of hard disk!

For server versions you do have to pay for it.

Pros and Cons of a 64 bit system:

* You can address much more than 4GB of memory, which is ideal for avid gamers, CAD, video editors and heavy multi-taskers. However, any 32 bit software you use will still be restricted to 4GB memory – you need a 64 bit CPU, OS and applications to take full advantage of the extra RAM.
* 16 bit applications will no longer run. Although this is unlikely to be a problem, if you use very old software (from the Windows 3.1 days!) then it will not work under a 64 bit OS.
* Existing 32 bit drivers no longer work.If you have older or poorly supported hardware you may find that it can no longer be used. Got a 7 year old scanner that just about works in Vista? You may not be able to get it working in 64 bit Windows 7.
* Unsigned kernel-mode drivers no longer work. Along with the issue above, the inability to run unsigned kernel mode drivers will cause problems for old hardware. (There is reportedly a way to bypass this check).

If you are an IT professional who needs all the RAM(4GB to 128GB RAM) in the world or a rich home user with so many ram then use 64 bit!

SOLUTION:

1)Turn off or uninstall what program might me causing this. In my case the culprit is the Video Card Radeon Catalyst Program... so I just disabled it and my monitor does turnoff now. But still I need this program... sometimes it just fails to turn off.

2)Download some softwares to facilitate the automatic way of turning off your monitor For the article visit addictivetips.com Download the software in Softpedia.com

3)Disable mouse and keyboard.

Use this to avoid accidental "waking up" of your monitor.

Ok I don't know why but everytime Microsoft updates Internet Explorer I have already been accustomed that there will be something wrong. This time in version 8... Well here is the first error. 1)Use paypal (xoom,etc) rather than your credit card if you can. Why? SECURITY! As much as possible you don't want to expose your credit card number!

2)Make sure the online shop is legitimate. HOW? Search and ask friends if they already bought from that shop. (Buy from reputable stores such as Bestbuy.com, lego.com, lacoste.com.)(Ebay, amazon is ok BUT be sure the seller won't scam you)(TIP:Amazon even sale their own stuff so you can be really sure that you will receive it)

3)If ever you decide to use credit card of the website doesn't accept paypal then no choice you have to use credit card BUT!!!! Be sure its a respectable and 100% real company (eg lacoste.com, and lego.com) do not buy in random online shopping sites made in some nigeria country(im not joking) other people experience this
3.1)Be sure that if ever you use your credit card internationally... your credit card does not charge you a percentage of the total ammount. And check also what's therate they use.... "You may end up having a high exchange rate!!!"

How do i check out Mastercard exchange rate used when i shop online?

I shop through internet sometimes and i didn't know the exchange rate used when i shop...i asked my bank but they said that it wasn't the buy and sell rate, it's the mastercard (my credit card) rate, specific for shopping activities...
i checked out at mastercard web...but no information about exchange rate...
Can anyone help?...

I just called GE money- they administer my mastercard, and they told me that the exchange rates used by mastercard are the ones at www.xe.com.

My mastercard doesn't have any fees for foreign transactions, but commonly the fee is 2.5%. I guess you need to call your card issuer to check that.

On the conditions of use brochure for one card (westpac gift card mastercard) it explains: "The exchange rate used for the conversion is either a government mandated exchange rate or a wholesale exchange rate, selected by MasterCard for the applicable currency on the day the transaction is processed. That rate may differ from the rate applicable to the date the transaction occurred, or the date when the transaction is deducted from the card value".

To me this means that the xe.com rates are the same wholesale rates that mastercard uses, BUT you dont exactly know which day the transaction will be processed. Close enough for me :)

Today I'll make a foreign currency purchase and check xe.com for the next couple of days. then I'll know for sure.

Ok one of our engineers computer bugged down due to "rat". So I replaced it with a a spare PC with pre installed XP, I installed Autocad 2007 but the error above came up!

Know the difference first

DBFs are accessed from a file server- since most servers itself can act as a file server,there's no need for you to buy another database server. BUT if you need more security and your company possess a LOT of database then it's time for you to buy a database server (eg. Microsoft SQL Server 2008)

dbf variations =FoxPro (now Visual FoxPro), Arago, Force, dbFast, dbXL, Quicksilver, Clipper, Xbase++, FlagShip, Recital, CodeBase, MultiBase and Harbour/xHarbour

ADVANTAGE of dbf than SQL SERVER
+fastest data system available on the PC platform. Even greater than any SQL Server outthere.
+Simplicity-easy copying or moving of the entire application database simply by copying the a VFP DBF application directory to any other location (but the again SQL can also backup database automatically)
+Programming-alot of people out there knows how to program this since it uses traditional SQL techniques -(but for me hmmm it still depends... there are other PL out there)

DISADVANTAGE of DBF THAT I experience with FoxPro dbf

Safety
-data files can become corrupt due to network or workstation interruptions.
-since typically all program users have full rights to the directory containing the data, an individual could (accidentally or maliciously) delete or overwrite one or more data files, or modify a data file from outside the VFP application, potentially introducing errors or corruption
-you can restrict accidental of file BUT there is still a way to acces it

Data Integrity
-While later versions of VFP have added the ability to enforce some forms of data integrity at the datafile level, these enhancements do not have the performance or robustness of those found in SQLS.

Technical Limitations
-DBF files are limited by Microsoft to 2 gigabytes in size for each DBF

SQLS data is accessed from a database server - Thus you need to buy another software BUT then again it offers more security and functionality.
-Microsoft SQL 2008, Dbase, Oracle
-provides for interfaces for getting things in and out without direct access to the underlying storage files.

ADVANTAGE of SQL:
+SQLS inherently uses multiple processors
+can be clustered onto multiple server machines
+Data Intergrity-if the server is told never to
allow deletes of a client if there are orders existing for that client, then it is an impossibility (absentdatabase administrator override) for that to happen,even outside of a VFP DBF application (since it is stored in the SQL Server as one file... so the user can't just delete the databse it self) unlike with dbf If I can access the network I can get the ownership of that dbf and delete it.
+Data Security-Users would not be able to copy or delete data files, even those who otherwise have access to the data through a VFP DBF application
+Data Access-SQLS provides a number of ways for users to access its data via ODBC. Users could access via a FoxPro application; via MS Access or Excel (if allowed), or remotely from outside the organization. (unlike with dbf you are usually stucked with Visual FoxPro well unless you converted the dbf)
+SQLS provides for optional replication, which allows data changes on one server to automatically migrate to another server.
+Finally, since the vast majority of the filtering is done at the server rather than the workstation, the network speed and client workstation power are less-important.
+Progamming-There are lots of PL langauge you can use to access mdf (sql) database. As long as you know how to use ODBC then you are fine. (hmm dbf can also be accessed with odbc but then again...SQL Server in the end has much more thigns to offer)
+And ohhh you can access dbf also through Microsoft SQL Server 2008 also

DISADVANTAGE of SQL SERVER
-Complexity - Database servers require more maintenance and
tuning than a file server.

note:The application could support a mixed-scheme approach, where some data could be in DBFs and other data in SQLS.

-Cost. Yes Microsoft SQL Server cost much but there are free versions called Express (but then again there are limitations with free)

Summary
The single-greatest hindrance to moving to SQL Server as VFP application data storage system is the time and expense of rewriting parts of a VFP DBF application to support SQLS. This work could be done incrementally, one table/data file at a time.
However, the potential benefits of moving a VFP DBF application to SQL Server are clear, particularly in regards to much more flexible data access and much stronger data integrity.

(Agree the time spent in rewriting, but for the new apps you will build maybe Its time to move to SQL servers...remember Security now is an issue! especially in bank company)

Issue

When you install Adobe Reader 8 on Windows Vista you see the error message, "The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder."

Reason

You have turned off User Account Control or you are logged in using the default administrator account.

Solution

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Enable User Account Control.

In Control Panels, choose User Accounts.
Click "Turn User Account Control on or off".

Omnia is still fun but I have some problems with phone's memory it's only 11mb... I want my omnia to have 80mb space! We'll Taril's DXHL3 ROM will solve my problem. so here again I am going to do some CTR C + CTR V again.... ^_^

You can't just update from your current ROM to another ROM immediately some ROM requires you to update to some ROM first before you can make use of the actual ROM you want to use.

I went to Smart Comm. Office at our area to ask them how to setup 3G for Samsung Black Jack 1 (SGH-i607). Well as usual! As I predicted! They said my phone is locked with another courier... So no choice I have to find a way to setup the 3G of this phone. Well thanks to this website I was able to use the 3G!

Today a weird thing happened to one of our workstation in Purchasing department. When I try to login in windows XP it says your account has been disabled. This computer is standalone and intended for use for internet only and not under the domain of the office.

He said the power shutdown unexpectedly due to power failure of our generator. But hmm I doubt it. Maybe another employee did something else that's why the account is locked. (An employee who is not allowed to use the internet and always having an overtime and what he does is use internet only)

SOLUTION:Anyways what I did is to boot Windows XP into safemode then go to computer management or type compmgmt.msc and enable the user account from the computer management local users group.

Conclusion: Have all firewall set that you can get your hands on: MORE protection the better. BUT be sure that all people that needs to connect to each other can still communicate each other. In other words don't make your firewall a hindrance to the communication of your precious users.

In Use: 78.83mb---->>> no choice as you install new programs even to micro sd card ti will still consume phone memory...Internet explorer and Opera temp files also goes here.
Free:7.88mb this is the problem --->>> as time goes by it will be 1mb!

Memory Explanation

My Device: This storage space is for the phone's RAM (memory) and should ONLY be used for system related files. NEVER EVER install programs or download media onto this storage space. This space is what is reserved for the 128MB of memory that your phone uses to run the operating system. Anything moved, installed, or downloaded into this space will take up system memory. So if you put a 10MB file into this space it will take up 10MB of the 128MB total memory.

My Storage: This space is the HARD DRIVE space which holds 8GB or 16GB depending on which Omnia model you have. 'My Storage' is where you should put ANY programs, files, or media. Anything that is put in My Storage will take up the 8GB of storage space and will NOT effect your memory. The phone is split into memory and storage on purpose. This is to ensure that the memory is never eaten up and your phone runs at optimal performance. (thanks wushdishmeen )

The Omnia also has a fault with USB charging, the device can not seem to charge quicker than the USB cable can charge it. Windows 2008 Server was released on February 4 2008 and officially released on February 27 2008. Finally Windows 2008 Server R2 is available for trial... so here I am using it now! Here are the software I use now.

The SuperFetch service in Windows Vista preloads your system's memory with the applications that you use most often. This makes launching of those applications much faster, but it might be an unwanted behavior for system tweakers or gamers.

There's no hard evidence that enabling or disabling this service will increase performance in general, but if you open and close applications often you should definitely leave it alone. You will have to test your configuration to know for sure.

note:Hello, Ram is required when you do a lot of Virtual LAB..!
I doubte vmware/virtual server, when checking RAM availability, will see that it can purge some garbage from SF! SF is just an aberation^^
But as it can be disable.. it's now ok. (I upgraded to XP just for this reason and others (like no adminpacks, no this or no that). I need all bit of my physical ram (3go) for my labs.. (ebe)
